As the Reel Fun pulled out into the channel
Captain Terry explained that, like most fishermen, he preferred to use
live bait fish for the type of fishing that we were going to be doing
that day.
Captain Terry explained that it was usually better to catch the bait
using a castnet rather than purchase it from the bait shops. As we cruised
along the shoreline of St Andrews' Park Captain Terry kept a close watch
on the waters, looking for indications that there was a school of the
small bait fish in the area.

Several times Captain Terry killed the throttle on the Reel Fun
and went forward with his cast net ready to collect the bait fish we
needed. But each time he peered into the water and declared that the
bait fish that he had seen were too small to be used. "You'd have
to use a freshwater crappie hook and even that would be too big for
these things!"
So he cranked up the throttle and continued to cruise along the shoreline,
searching for bait fish. |
Captain Terry kept looking for bait fish as the morning sun moved
higher into the sky. Every school he spotted seemed to be worse than
the one before.... |
